The charitable amongst us may already know about the crop of music events happening around the country since the beginning of October. In association with ‘Oxfam’, ‘Oxjam’ is largely tipped to be the biggest music festival the UK has ever seen.

Around 40,000 musicians and an audience of 300,000 are expected to take part in around 3,000 events nationwide throughout October, all raising a total of £1 million for ‘Oxfam’. The highlight from the first week of ‘Oxjam’ included a London charity shop that was converted into a gig venue, staging exclusive performances from Fatboy Slim, The Kooks, Jarvis Cocker, Hot Chip and Jamelia.
The difference with ‘Oxjam’ doesn’t stop only with its charitable aim. Thousands of events put on by music lovers – from large-scale festivals to local sponsored busks, during October will produce the equivalent of 500 days of continuous music, all raising money to fight poverty around the world.
The event is now in its second year and already looks set to raise more than the £500,000 it did last year for ‘Oxfam’. Ricky Wilson of the Kaiser Chiefs expressed his support, "’Oxjam's’ into its second year and Kaiser Chiefs are proud to be supporters. It's Oxfam's way of raising vital funds for its overseas work. ‘Oxjam's’ about music fans picking up their instruments to help fight poverty: by getting involved at any level, you’re helping a very worthwhile cause." |

The target of £1 million from ‘Oxjam’ this year would be enough to provide safe water for almost 1.4 million people, 20,000 emergency shelters or essential medicines for 10,000 villages. Paul Oakenfold, Mr Scruff, Pendulum, 2many DJs, Fabio and Grooverider are all set to perform at ‘Oxjam’ shows in October.
